Rocky Hill Farm owner Ben McCarty pushes hay down a chute to the cows in the barn at his farm in Penn Township on Monday. The dairy farm, owned by the McCarty family, was established in 1850, is comprised of about 300 acres and is home to 150 cows. Ben says the outlook is not good for the small dairy farmer for a number of reasons. The concentrated protein supplement they put with the milk when they process the cheese is one reason says Ben. They yield twice as much cheese. They get the same amount of cheese and but only need half the amount of milk. Despite all the challenges, Ben loves the life of a dairy farmer, " It's my job, my hobby, my time off." said Ben.
